Great Lakes Wind in Wisconsin: |
![]() Wednesday, February 8, 2012 Best Western Inn on the Park (Vilas Room)
22 South Carroll St, Madison, Wisconsin One of the most promising sources of renewable energy that has the potential to generate baseload power near population centers and create manufacturing, installation and maintenance jobs for local communities is offshore wind in Lake Michigan. Developing this renewable resource will also reduce our state's dependence on fossil fuels, clean up our air and water, and reduce the threat of climate change. The Sierra Club is offering a forum for stakeholders, including policymakers, business representatives, and nonprofit staff and volunteers to discuss critical issues surrounding offshore wind development.
AGENDA: Here are the videos, powerpoints, and/or materials from each presentation.
Introductions, Agenda Overview, Meeting Purpose and Goals
Great Lakes Wind Overview/Feasibility
Siting and Ecological Issues
Policy Needs and ways to get there
Most other Great Lakes states have seriously begun to look into the environmental, techlogical and regulatory issues that must be considered in order to sustainably develop this resource. Europe has been using offshore wind to supply energy needs for years. Wisconsin produced a detailed report on offshore wind in 2009, but little follow up has occured since that time.
