Great Waters Group Blog about the Great Lakes

Great Waters Group is a Sierra Club member group of the John Muir Chapter (WI). We serve over 3,000 Sierra Club members in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, & Waukesha counties.

Sierra Club groups are run by their members who volunteer to promote environmental sustainability by taking action on local issues and educating others to understand the issues and opportunities available to make informed decisions that will better protect our shared environment.  Our group coordinates many different activities and outings throughout the year so our members can also enjoy and appreciate the wonders of the outdoors and experiences of others.

About the Great Waters Group -
The Great Waters Group represents Sierra Club members in the counties of Milwaukee; Ozaukee; Waukesha; and Washington.  Our local Sierra Club group is run by member volunteers who provide the group with leadership and direction.

Explore... (Learning) LEARN * COLLABORATE * CONTRIBUTE * TAKE ACTION
Great Waters Group coordinates monthly education programs that provide Sierra Club members and the general public with notable speakers that share their knowledge about preserving and enjoying our natural world.  Programs provide a means to get your questions answered.  Great Waters Group Programs are held from September through May. They are typically held at Mayfair Mall in the Community Room on the lower level of the Garden Suites East offices.  By attending, you will have the opportunity to meet new people that may share your interests in local issues, our environment or a travel destination.

Check our Learning Programs page or our Calendar to find topics that might interest you and the best way to find us at the mall.  Whether a Sierra Club member or not, feel free to join us!

In addition to our monthly programs, we also have trained speakers who can come to you to provide presentations and discuss enviromental concerns for a group of friends, neighbors or an organization. See our On Site Presentations page for more information.

Enjoy... (Outings and Activities) EXPLORE NATURE * ENJOY THE OUTDOORS WITH OTHERS
One of the things that the Sierra Club is known for are its outings.  Conducted both nationally and locally, our outings provide many opportunities to satisfy different interests to enjoy the outdoors.  Our local group's 2008 outings are being posted.  Your options are open, so register and join a group of friendly, helpful and accommodating members.  Oh yes, there might be some stories along the way too.

Enjoying the outdoors is instilled in the various outings, activities, and events that Great Waters Group coordinates and sponsors throughout the year.  Check our Outings page or our Calendar to see what is planned.

Protect the Planet... (Volunteering) RESEARCH * COORDINATE * LEAD * HELP OUT * TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT AND PROTECT
Many volunteers are required to help ensure the Sierra Club is effective in addressing local, state, and national issues.  Volunteers are also needed to increase public awareness and enjoyment of the outdoors. The opportunities that our members have available to them are plentiful.  You don't need to become an activist to make a difference!  Volunteers are ALWAYS needed. There are many different types of opportunities that can accommodate different interests and time commitments. For additional information and opportunities involved in volunteering, please see our Volunteer page. If there are any questions, please contact any Chairperson listed below.
