Great Waters Group is a Sierra Club member group of the John Muir Chapter (WI). We serve club members in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, & Waukesha counties.  Sierra Club groups are run by their members who volunteer to promote environmental sustainability by taking action on local issues and educating others to understand the issues and opportunities available to make informed decisions that will better protect our shared environment.  Our group coordinates many different activities and outings throughout the year so our members can enjoy and appreciate the wonders of the outdoors and the experiences of others.

Personal Habits

Using Water Wisely & Reduce the Waste that Enters our Water!

Rethink lawn care -  Fertilizer and pesticides flow directly into our streams when it rains. Encourage better professional lawn care services

Clean up after your pet - The waste from our furry friends needs proper disposal.

Don't dump motor oil and antifreeze in the sewer - Storm sewers (which carry off rainwater to lakes and streams) and sanitary sewers (which carry off human waste to sewage treatment plants) are not equipped to process automotive waste.  Recycle it, or have the work done by someone that does.

Take time to understand your watershed.
We all live in a hierarchy of watersheds -- of our streams, rivers and lakes.  They form environmental corridors that sustain a myriad of plants and animals.  They have unique recreational and spiritual value to human beings The more we understand how they work, and how we depend on them, the better we appreciate them and work to protect them..
